BOLD Guidance Selected as Semi-Finalist for Prestigious $80,000 Echoing Green Award

BOLD Guidance selected as Semi-Finalist for Echoing Green $80,000 award for new mobile- and web-based app that streamlines the FAFSA and college application process.

CLEVELAND, February 19, 2013—BOLD Guidance mobile- and web-based app was selected as a semi-finalist by Echoing Green to be considered for an $80,000 award. Echoing Green provides seed funding to the world’s most promising social entrepreneurs. Almost 3,000 applications were submitted for this international competition and BOLD Guidance was selected in the top 12% as one of the 350 semi-finalists for the Echoing Green Fellowship. Echoing Green provides selected finalists with funding, professional and organizational development, technical support, and pro bono partnerships.

CEO Nichelle McCall, provides consultation to administrators of nonprofits and schools to develop college preparation programs through her consulting firm, Community Strategies Consulting, LLC. From this work, she created BOLD Guidance to transform the college application and FAFSA process by organizing and managing it through students’ mobile phones while allowing counselors to track students’ progress through a web-based platform. Students have deadlines and tasks for their applications in one, portable location allowing them to stay on track to complete applications in an orderly and timely manner.

BOLD Guidance is the only app that breaks down specific college application and FAFSA requirements, provides step-by-step guides on completing them, and allows students to manage it through their phones while letting counselors track their progress. “Through my consultancy work, I saw students wanting to go to college searching all the different college websites and trying to organize their applications in folders or notebooks,” explains Nichelle McCall, President of Community Strategies Consulting, LLC and Founder of BOLD Guidance, Inc. “Students were missing application deadlines and requirements, while many didn’t have the guidance or know how to navigate the college admission process.”

BOLD Guidance takes the strategies that high school counselors and college admission officers know are successful for applying to college and automates the process to empower students to take ownership of completing their applications. “Federal mandates are now requiring high schools to increase college enrollment rates. The BOLD Guidance app guides students through the process of applying to college by providing them with deadlines and tasks specific to the FAFSA and each college application in one-portable location,” says “We are making it easier for students to manage applying to college and increase their college application rates, while not increasing the workload of counselors.

The Cleveland-based company has taken feedback from schools and nonprofits in Cleveland, Baltimore, and Washington D.C to make the college application process easier for students, counselors, and advisors through this mobile- and web-based program. Community Strategies Consulting, LLC plans to use the money to launch BOLD Guidance in schools and nonprofits across the nation this year.
